Night Run

Went for an hour run above the house after work on Monday night. Brought along Lucy as well. 900 feet of climbing in just over 2 miles. The new snowshoes are great. Tripped a couple of times trying to maneuver the terrain. A great effort. It's nice to mix up the training with having these new shoes.

Snowshoeing in Rico

A great day for running in the new snowshoes. 2.5 hours and covered about 8 miles. What a workout! Climbed 1000 feet to get to the high point of the locals loop. Not great snowshoes for the deep stuff ( I had to bust through the deep pow-pow to get to the overlook) but great for any small amount of fluff and hard packed trails.

Goodies for Xmas

Well, I must have been a good boy for the most part as I received a Spot messenger device from the wife and a new set of Crescent Moon race/running snowshoes from Mike and Sophia. Going out today to test out the Spot and the new snowshoes. Going to run what we call Locals Loop which is approximately 7-9 miles depending what options you choose to do and 1200 feet of climbing.

Laura received from me a nice pair of Keen boots and a Navy Blue Chris King headset and matching spacers.

Lizard Head XC Skiing

Laura and I headed up to Lizard Head on Thursday to xc ski. It's a nice out and back totaling about 5 miles or so. We brought Shady and Lucy with us and they had a great time in the snow. Shady had an issue with ice build up between her pads so we need to get her some paw covers. After skiing Laura dropped me off 4.5 miles from the house and I ran home to get in a great workout for the day.

Merry Xmas!!!

Well, it's Xmas eve and I'm looking at a 4 day weekend. Today will be xc skiing with Laura up at Lizard Head and a short run afterwards. Depending on the weather I will run 16 miles on Saturday and hopefully get in a long road ride on Sunday in the Cortez area as I did last weekend. This past weekend I ran 14 miles and did a 50 mile bike ride in the Cortez area: Cortez to Mancos, to Dolores and back to Cortez. Good stuff for winter riding when the trails are closed up locally with snow pack.

XC Skiing at 10k

Went xc skiing after work on Thursday at a location called Priest lake. Located about halfway to Rico from Telluride. Elevation 10,000 feet. Night skiing is pretty awesome. Going tonight to Trout Lake starting at Lizard Head. Great cross training and it keeps me off of the rollers everyday.

Winter Wonderland

Went out for a 12 mile run on Saturday in the white stuff. Not too bad of temps...around 20 degrees and a headwind from the South to boot.

Got out Sunday as well and XC skied with Laura and Sophia right here in Rico. The trail wasnt groomed but it was a great 1 1/2 hour workout with the heart rate averaging around 160 for the most part.

Cold

A big winter storm moved through on Monday and left us with 30" plus of new snow. It has been frigid cold as well. Spent 4 hours trying to clear the driveway on Tuesday. A great workout for sure. Rode the rollers for an hour on Tuesday and went out for a 5.5 mile run on Wednesday night after work. It was a balmy 4 degrees when I left the house and 0 degrees when I returned after 7pm. Than I spent 30 minutes on the rollers. A pretty good workout. This morning it is a negative 10 degrees. Hopefully the weather will warm up and I can find a place to ride on Sunday. Looks likes a busy weekend with only one weekend day available to go ride. In thge meantime it will be running and roller time.

Moab.......again

It looked like it was going to be a nasty day but turned out to be pretty good for a December day. Rode from town out to the Brand Trails and beyond and back to town.. Not a soul around but me.
Some step descents down the slick rock face.

There is a valid reason they say to walk you bike.

Phil's World

Phils World was cold on Saturday. 32 degrees at the start of my ride. I was 5 miles into my ride before I turned around to go put on some warmer gloves. After getting the right gloves on I went back out and rode the entire big loop and the 4 mile loop off of the parking lot. 31 miles total. Not a bad day on the bike.

I may sneak on over to Moab today to try to get in a good effort but looks like the snow is coming in. Here in Rico we are expecting some serious accumulation.
