Death loop

Looks like a Death Loop may be on tap for Saturday morning. Weather is looking so-so but I have some takers: Shawn and Kiviok. Let's do it I say. Rolling out at 4am from Dolores and riding clockwise. 236 miles and who knows how much climbing, 20K!?!? Anyone know? This ride follows the San Juan Scenic byway from Rico to Telluride, Ridgeway, through Ouray, over Red Mtn. Pass to Silverton. On to Durango, Mancos and back to Dolores. I'm thinking 16 hours on a geared road bike at 15 mph. Sounds fun, huh?!?!? Most of the ride is at 8k or more.

Senor Freako,

I read your post about the "Death Ride" and decided to give it a shot while vacationing in Durango. I rode it solo on July 1counterclockwise, Durango - Silverton - Ridgeway - Telluride - Rico - Dolores - Mancos - Durango. I'm from San Diego so the altitude worked me pretty good. Here are my Garmin numbers: 224 miles, 18,949 ft of gain, 12:32:56 ride time (13:53:20 total), 17.8 avg mph, 13,900 calories. I can send you the Garmin file if interested in seeing all the details... It's a tough day in the saddle!
